What OrgIndex data is, where it comes from, and the terms for using it — including commercial, research, and government use.
Source provenance
OrgIndex is a derived, aggregated dataset built from public and licensed sources. Attribution flows from these primary inputs:
| Source | Provides | Terms |
|---|---|---|
| RIPE, APNIC, LACNIC, AFRINIC bulk WHOIS | Registrant + delegation records | Per each RIR's bulk-access terms |
| BGP routing tables (RouteViews/RIS via CAIDA) | Announced prefixes & origin ASNs | Public |
| RPKI ROAs (rpki-client VRP) | Cryptographic route-origin authorizations | Public |
| IRR route objects | Self-published routing policy | Public |
| PeeringDB | IX / peering facility addresses | Per PeeringDB terms |
| GLEIF Golden Copy (LEI register) | Legal entity identity, jurisdiction, corporate parents | CC0 (public domain) |
OrgIndex does not republish raw source databases. It publishes the derived entity-resolution layer (organisation ↔ IP range mappings, legal-entity identity, jurisdiction, routing hygiene, and change history) that it computes on top of them. Personal contact data (POC email/phone) is used only internally for clustering and is never displayed or exported.
Licence
Web interface: free to browse. API & exports: available under the Terms of Service and, for paid tiers, the subscription agreement. Redistribution of OrgIndex-derived bulk data requires a written data-licensing agreement.
Commercial, research, and government licensing (bulk feeds, historical datasets, on-premise delivery, or higher-volume API access) is available — including terms suitable for public-sector and regulated buyers who need provenance guarantees and a defined licence. Contact hello@orgindex.io.
Accuracy & honesty
Attribution is a best-effort inference from imperfect public data, not an authoritative ownership record. The index is rebuilt weekly; clustering can shift between runs, so footprint changes may reflect our re-clustering as well as real-world change (change views say so). RPKI coverage figures are sampled estimates. OrgIndex is provided without warranty; verify load-bearing conclusions against primary sources.
